Sunday in the sun

Enjoying the winter sun

Enjoying the winter sun

It’s too hot in the Australian summer for black-coated dogs so winter is my favourite time of year (some northern hemisphere dogs may be scoffing at this). The air temperature hovers around 20 degrees and the sea is still warm. Humans are rugged up in boots and coats – as are some smaller dogs (little booties which look ridiculous) and the heating goes on after dusk. I sported a red rain jacket with a pointy collar in my youth – not a great fashion accessory unless you’re a vampire – but after being smeared in a dead possum last year it was binned.

Today, after Sunday races in the harbour with my friends, I endured another shampoo (carp odour still prevailing) and felt chilly so sprawled in the sun whilst the family read the newspapers. Plan to spend the rest of the day asleep, hopefully on the sofa if I’m sneaky.

When I was in Australia in July four years ago, it was 17C and people were wearing coats & scarves & gloves. We were amazed! When it got to 20C we started stripping off because of course that’s quite nice for us! It’s spring here and about 15C and people are already wearing flip flops! Set to be a lovely day today – at 17C 😄

Had to laugh at your comments. I know – we’re terrible. Complete lack of central heating and the idea of rugging up is appealing at this time of year. Wore my puffer jacket to school sport on Saturday – pathetic really…

I sniggered a bit too! The first sight of the sun & we’re in sandals! It’s 16c outside; about 20c in the sun outside our back door. I’m wearing sandals & summer clothes 😄😄

Careful – you don’t want to get frostbite!

What do you mean?! It’s lovely and warm…. Sandals and cardigans OR EVEN jackets, that’s the current look! LOL

Well..I did speak to my parents tonight. They are just outside Leicester and said it was hailing and 4 degrees this week!

Yes we’ve had hail here in Somerset too. That was Friday. I don’t think our temperature has gone below 10c but we have had the heating on. My husband who tries to get away with turning the heating off at Easter, no matter what, has even voluntarily put it on!

I live in the Northern hemisphere and I can tell you we need some warm, spring is about 3 weeks behind schedule this year. My dog Rocky (boxer) hates the heat, he would never survive where you are. I had a black lab years ago and they do suffer in the heat, she loved the sea though, best place to cool off in the summer. Ruby is beautiful.

Thank you – she think she is gorgeous too but living with her has been a huge challenge, mainly because of her obessession with food. We have a paddling pool for her in the summer and she seeks out cool earth in the garden (after lots of digging). Very early walks are the norm in the heat with lots of time at the beach in the late afternoon.
