Desert Island Ruby

The monster from the deep emerges

The monster from the deep emerges

Another spooky blanket of fog today meant sanctuary in the familiar waters of the lake.  No ducks, swans or eels around so braved the chilly water for a dip and paddled off vigorously, ignoring several ‘come’ commands from my owner.

Headed towards a small island in the middle of this lake, mainly inhabited by ibis (these once noble birds are considered pests and hated by everyone). Easy to scrabble up onto it and spend time alone, uninterrupted, sniffing out and eating ibis poo, a bit of dead ibis wing and something unrecognisable but once living and very tasty.  Could hear owner calling from various parts of the shore but was in my element, camouflaged by trees and much too busy to listen to her.

After about thirty minutes of exploring, decided to plop into the water swim back.  Much further than I remembered and my fuller belly dragged me down so by the time I reached my owner was puffed out and could barely stand.  Immediately leashed and dragged straight home the short way back as it was time for my nap (owner also very cross and running late).  Secretly planning a return visit tomorrow though.

Yes – it was horrible – disbelief she’d actually swam over to the island, then worried, then very cross, then nearly walked off in frustration and finally relief when she eventually came back. Just had to wait it out as the water was too deep and far too disgusting for me to venture in!

Yes Ruby loves water but I need to get her to come back, not head out to sea!
