Bread basket case

Why do you think there is a gorgeous loaf of bread where there is usually a photo of Ruby? Need to know? Well – after 18 hours of proving, two hours of further rising and an hour of baking, this second fabbo artisan style loaf was scoffed by a black dog. Need I say more?

I don’t blame Ruby at all. If I was there I would have joined. Looks delicious! Good going Ruby. I am sure you ate for my sake as well..hehehehe

    • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 26 2013 4:02 pm

But 21 hours of careful nuturing wasted – no excuse!!!

      • Sonel / Aug 27 2013 12:00 am

LOL! Awww come on Charlie… I know you’ve forgiven Ruby already. Now go and back some more please. We are hungry! 😆

      • Sonel / Aug 27 2013 12:00 am

PS : That must be ‘bake’ … not ‘back’ .. hahahah

      • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 27 2013 2:00 pm

That’s ok I knew what you meant! Yes have now worked at the lead time – need to start 21 hours before I want to eat it so will make some more today. Don’t tell Ruby 🙂

      • Sonel / Aug 27 2013 5:28 pm

hehehe, have fun. I am sure Ruby will smell it before I do. LOL!

  2. thepaddingtonfoodie / Aug 26 2013 4:25 pm

Obviously way too tempting for Ruby’s well honed nose. She had you fooled yesterday curled up tight with her friends. Was obviously dreaming up a plan… There’s nothing for it, You’ll have to bake another one.

    • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 26 2013 4:27 pm

I know. It’s just the mental anguish! Was so looking forward to having a slice after the long wait!!

  3. dogtailsblog / Aug 26 2013 5:36 pm

Ooohh yummy 🙂 We had homemade bread too yesterday 🙂

  4. susank456 / Aug 26 2013 5:56 pm

That sounds exactly like something AJ would have and actually did. After all the hard work and you didn’t get a bite. Small comfort – it looked delicious. Did Ruby survive?

    • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 26 2013 7:11 pm

Did Ruby survive my wrath or her stomach being completely bloated??? Both – in different ways:)

      • susank456 / Aug 27 2013 5:57 pm

Poor you and poor Ruby. I could say that maybe she’ll have learned her lesson, but we both know that she’ll do it again when the opportunity arises. Each time AJ stole food, we learned and adapted. The trouble was he was smarter than us and found new ways to get people food.

        Good luck.

      • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 27 2013 6:38 pm

Thanks for the good luck wishes. Yes we live and learn don’t we!

  5. lovinghomemade / Aug 26 2013 6:42 pm

I would be devestated! She is so naughty!!!

    • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 26 2013 7:12 pm

Yes – after the first one which was sooo yummy we decided to make another but it takes a long time so we tried to work out when to get it started so 21 hours later we could eat it. vvv cross with Ruby…

  6. The Sundog Drift / Aug 26 2013 7:58 pm

Oh….. so Ruby is blessed in the art of counter surfing? Lucky you.

    • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 26 2013 8:42 pm

Yes very sneaky and this habit must stop. our house is full of child gates again…

  7. fozziemum / Aug 26 2013 9:02 pm

Ruby!!! whats with Labrastomachs!! I have lost numerous much awaited baked goods….bet she had the bottom pops after that too just to add insult to injury 🙂 Hugs Fozziemum x

    Impressed Ruby!
I’m not much good at counter surfing. I blame the cocker part of my genetics for not giving me the height. Thankfully toddler has a step stool that often gets left in the kitchen.
Yep impressed Ruby. Hope your tummy recovers soon and that humans see the amusing part to it (maybe).

  9. 2browndawgs / Aug 26 2013 10:10 pm

    WTG Ruby!

    the brown dawgs

    • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 27 2013 1:58 pm

I know, I know but if they don’t put the child gate fully across and lock it the kitchen is easy pickings 🙂

  10. Rosie / Aug 26 2013 10:12 pm

    Oops !

  11. Emily @ Adventures of a Dog Mom / Aug 27 2013 12:16 am

I hate to say it but I don’t blame her… that looks so good!

    • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 27 2013 2:03 pm

It was exceptionally yummy and easy and very artisan like. You should give the receipe a try – you just need patience – something I’m running out of with Ruby!

  12. rileysaur / Aug 27 2013 1:22 am

Oh no! It looked delicious- me thinks the smell was too much for such a sensitive nose to resist!

    • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 27 2013 2:04 pm

Yes smell plus child gate not pulled quite far enough over. Any temptation and she’s in the kitchen with paws up on the bench – hopeless!

  13. easyweimaraner / Aug 27 2013 1:41 am

I can understand why, this bread looks so tasty – I couldn’t resist :o)

  14. Booksphotographsandartwork / Aug 27 2013 2:55 am

    You didn’t?!

  15. mariayarri / Aug 27 2013 8:23 am

Ruby… You must be my soulmate 😉 …

When it was Cinnamon Bun Day, here in Sweden, I thaught that Maria had left a bunch of buns on the table that she wanted me to try … But oh no … She called me thieving Magpie …

And last Christmas I happened accidentally eat eight pieces of Saffron Buns … Except the fact that Maria was a bit upset with me … I got a lot of pain in my little Drever stomach … // Yarri 🙂

    • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 27 2013 2:05 pm

Yarri – you are my soulmate, a dog after my own heart – you understand me!

  16. readingwithrhythm / Aug 27 2013 11:56 am

That Ruby is my kind of girl!

    • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 27 2013 2:06 pm

Do you mean a girl that steals lovingly prepared food and is still hungry. She is sooo naughty.

      • readingwithrhythm / Aug 27 2013 2:11 pm

I can so relate to Ruby! And the Mom Person feels your pain. Life with a Lab! The stories I could tell!! Like the time I enjoyed a whole German chocolate cake that was lovingly made for my Poppa Joe. ummm. I felt that love all the way to my tummy!

      • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 27 2013 6:40 pm

German chocolate cake – wow – impressive!

      • readingwithrhythm / Aug 27 2013 11:15 pm

Yes. The Mom Person thought so.

  17. weliveinaflat / Aug 27 2013 8:32 pm

The dog belonging to the artisanal bread baking person, needs necessarily have an artisanal taste. My condolences that the dog got to it first 😛

    • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 27 2013 11:19 pm

Yes she’s always at a small distance away from me pottering about. Has a good recall apart from those situations when…I’m not as interesting as something else 🙂

    • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 27 2013 11:20 pm

Yes absolutely. We were all sad having devoured the first loaf in a single sitting!

  18. Clowie / Aug 29 2013 12:45 am

I don’t generally steal food, but it is very tempting when my bipeds make bread!

    • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 29 2013 5:15 pm

Good for you Clowie – nice and polite unlike wheelie bin on legs Ruby 🙂

  19. littledogslaughed / Aug 31 2013 7:27 am

Wow-that would be very hard to pass up Ruby-it looks scrumptious!

    • rubytheblacklabrador / Aug 31 2013 8:13 am

It was – yum yum. Loaf number 3 was made lovingly but only for human consumption sadly…
