Full of possum
Been waiting two weeks for a possum under a tree to fully decompose to its smelliest. Have nonchalantly sniffed it, left it and ignored it. Today I pounced, ran off and ate the entire carcass to the disgust of the whole park. Despite best efforts, no one could catch me. Left a pungent aroma in my wake as I was manhandled home and slept all day emitting foul-smelling gases from both ends…
What a sad face! I hope she doesn’t get sick.
Me too – she seems ok though and bowel movements were normal this afternoon. She was just a bit sleepy in this photo:)
Almost makes one stop and wonder why we buy some of the most expensive food on the market for them! :O
Yes! I’m sure if I left Ruby in the park she could survive on her own for a wek just scavenging:)
A well-hung possum is delicious! Hope it wasn’t the U-possum, because that has torpedos inside. Paws crossed that your stomach can manage such delicacies :o)
Not a U-possum, a ring tailed one and stomach actually ok surprisingly:)
Oh ick Ruby, I sure hope you’re OK after eating all that!
Of course! Just another delicacy:)
What a great photograph! Sweet dreams Ruby-I am sure you will be dreaming of possum pie, possum cake, possum stew, possum rolls . . . .
Oh yes – although possum sushi is best – nice and raw and well aged…
You look a little queazy in your pic, Ruby. Hope you feel okay. I have been steering Max away from a possum carcass on our walk for the past week or so. He seems to think it is ripe for eating, too!
Give it a few weeks on grass to age and it is a real delicacy:)
Hehehehe sounds like it was worth it:-)
Absolutely!
Ruby, you are such a funny girl — I love the gorgeous picture of your sad face today and the account of how your possum posse went — good strategy to leave it alone until it REALLY STANK! Hey, where do you live, Ruby? I sure don’t think we have any possums around for us to get into (on Vancouver Island, BC). From Cindy and Midge
Hi Cindy and Midge I live in Sydney, Australia – fairly close to the centre and near a huge park where there is an adbundance of rats, bats, birds and possums. I only eat them when they’re dead and well aged though. Nice to meet you:)
Oh Ruby!
I know, I know – well I patiently waited til it was nice and aged and fooled everyone. Such a treat!
In awe of your exploits – love from Mollie xxx
Thanks – two days in a row there was really something to write about. Will me nice to mum for the next couple of days and lull her in to a false sense of security:)
π π Thank you for sharing this experience. Love your writing!!!
Thank you – it was another day in the life of Ruby – a life full of great highs and lows!
Just like mine then π
Yes – life is a rollercoaster isn’t it?
π true π
π
I guess that’s what dogs do . . . hope she doesn’t get sick though.
Yes – well I think some dogs. Most of my friends dogs don’t seem interested at all in dead animals. Ruby will eat anything and everything. She seems ok today and we had a fun walk today:)
Labradors have a reputation for eating anything and everything!
Such a bad reputation!
What JOY!
Yes – if only I was a dog!!
Possum gas is probably the worst. I’m glad you enjoyed your find, Ruby but condolences to your family!
Yes – they didn’t like it at all – a one point during dinner I was banished to the garden:(
What an adorable face! Great shot Charlie and seems Ruby had lots of fun..heheheheh. π *big hugs*
Fun as always and water off a duck’s back so to speak. She never ever seems to have any ill effects from her snaffling.
Oh boy!
I know – two days in a row I get into ‘trouble’ π
ewwww smelly smelly!!
yes hideous!
You and two of my cats would get on very well! We don’t get possums here but they sure do make short work of rabbits, rats, mice and birds. Oh yes, I nearly forgot about the moles (which for some reason they usually don’t finish) as well as bats!
π Mandy xo
Little moles – I’d forgotten about moles. We have pygmy possums here which are about the same size. Dead food is just yummy:)
Hahaha way to go! Dead possum….sounds like a delicious treat π
Yes – yum yum. No one was going to take it off me!
I don’t care what you smell like or where your nose has been. This is an awesome close-up!
Thanks – just such a tangle of dead everything!
