My dog food

Butter wouldn't melt in my mouth

Butter wouldn’t melt in my mouth

Aside from my daily diet of high quality premium dog kibble I have side dishes of one or more of the following each day.

Dead things sniffed out in the park and usually rolled in before eating:

  • Dead possum (best not to share with other dogs)
  • Dead bat
  • Dead ibis (it’s a good game to run around trailing the ibis)
  • Dead fish from the lake or harbour
  • Dead mouse/rat
  • Bones
  • Any type of poo – human, dog, horse, possum, bird

Fresh food I pick up where humans leave it:

  • Discarded apple cores
  • Chewing gum
  • Bread in various forms, including miniscule crumbs
  • Roast chicken (plus any wrapping)
  • Smoked salmon (especially when on a plate on the floor at a picnic)
  • Hot cross buns (snaffled from the kitchen bench)
  • Ginger cake (ditto)
  • Bread rolls (ditto)

The Sundogs could show you lots of new things to eat if you ever visited Sundog Ranch. One of there favorites is live wood rats and the occasional quail if they are lucky. Fresh meat!

Might want to ask you parents to slip a little papaya juice in your food to help with your, ahem, flatulence issues which might result from your attempt to insure a ‘complete’ diet. It worked on our stinky one!

My lab/spaniel cross, who owned me when I was a young ‘un, used to eat my underwear, so I’d say you had a good balanced diet there Ruby!

Alfie has a thing for stealing bra’s and knickers from the washing box too! Socks must be tasty but only the smelliest forgotten ones

.According to him, Dead rabbits are good πŸ™‚ and on the topic of turds. Duck poo and Goose poo is good for a mid walkies snack, but when you are at home nothing beats sneaking to the cat litter tray and stealing a cat poo πŸ™‚ We had to put a child gate on the room with the litter tray in to stop him!

Golly Alfie you’re a good snaffler of things. On the poo front I prefer possum, followed by horse, followed by ibis, followed by dog…(followed by human) πŸ™‚

Be careful what “treats” you eat, sweet Ruby! Many people chew sugarless gum that has xylitol in it, and that can be toxic to dogs. We don’t want you to get sick!

Yes.. so so doggish. Love your photos of Ruby. I have a blog that I try to focus on the great outdoors featuring my stomping and hiking grounds in New England but I can’t help including my three dogs in my posts.

And why not?! They are part of the family. Sadly there are limited options for dog in national parks in Australian. Thanks for popping by:)
