Hi I’m Ruby and I’m a Leo
In a last ditch effort, and given the large moon event over the weekend, my owner decided to research my zodiac sign to see if it would shed light on my particular personality traits which seem to be dominant at the moment.
Born in August, I am a Leo which means:
– My birthstone is: a ruby (what a coincidence)
– My lucky day is: Sunday (yes, because its harbour swim day)
– Key phrase is: ‘I will’ (of course I will, I can, I shall and I should)
My key strengths are:
– Confidence (some would say overly confident eg. jumping great distances onto yachts, snaffling human food)
– Loyal (stay close to heel even when off leash unless smelly things are around, love my family)
– Encouraging (always teach other dogs to search out food but they need to catch me if they want to share mine)
– Warm and enthusiastic (I love everyone and want everyone to love me)
– Never dwell on the past (a lost opportunity to get a dead bat today? – never mind there’ll be one tomorrow)
– Never hold a grudge and am very forgiving (still want to lick owner even after gruff voice and getting told off for eating small dead mouse)
My key weaknesses are:
– Domineering (I’m the boss of the soft toys and if you get out of line you’re shredded)
– Stubborn (despite extensive training, I won’t drop this dead possum or stop pulling to get to a small piece of bread)
– Very independent (always out on my own looking for mischief, happy to chill out on my own away from others)
– Proud, love praise and flattery (not necessarily a weakness but I crave strokes, tummy rubs and always want to be the centre of attention)
– Devoted to themselves (what’s wrong with constant grooming, especially when waiting at traffic lights?)
The Leo temperament (taken word for word from zodiac-signs-astrology.com) (owners comments in italics):
Leo loves the new and extraordinary, they despise dull, regular routines and if this is what they are faced with, they will simply create their own drama and excitement (so true). This makes Leo prone to stir up a situation out of nowhere just for something to keep their vivacious temperament satisfied (absolutely).
Leo has an amazing ability to bounce back from any feelings of despair or unfortunate events (always). They do not like to be unhappy, it hurts their pride so they will take matters into their own hands and make things right again (forgive and forget is Ruby’s motto).
Leos could come into conflict with other powerhouse type of people who will not take orders and not give an inch (mmm this is me – I’m a Capricorn so equally belligerent and stubborn). Leos most often have the temperament of a demanding, spoiled child (yes, yes yes!) but this is only shown if someone steps on the boundaries of their kingdom. They react this way because of their territoriality (so our house is actually Ruby’s house?, the park is exclusively her park?).
Conclusion:
So, having researched Leos thoroughly owner says she is a bit closer to understanding me. This will certainly save hair tearing out, stomps of frustration and tears of despair. Other thing I forgot to mention is that my parents were both Grand Champion Labrador Retrievers so it’s actually all in the blood, not in the stars…

Well hello there fellow Leo. I too, am a Leo. We are the best! 😀
Yay go Leos!
Well Ruby! Forrest is also a Leo born the 8th of august 🙂 do you like your mane? 🙂
Ruby is the 7th!! we can have a joint cake 🙂
Yay!! Leo labradogs…in a class of their own hehehe..Forrest does love cake…especially if I have left a chocolate cake on the bench for icing,or an orange cake,or a muffin or a tray of xmas biscuits…..the mouth is swift!! 🙂
I get a big bowl of flour, full to the brim and also choc full of bog treats/biscuit/kibble etc. Then I make her sit and stay and I move away about 1o metres. Then I upend the bowl and carefully remove it so there is a nice mound. Ruby is then let loose – she scoffs the food bits and gets covered in the flour! Will promise to post photos this year!
Hahahaha Cant wait! Forrest and Doc get the party hats..mini cocktail franks in those little bake at home rolls and other assorted goodies..we have to be careful with Doc as he has had pancreatitis…but the photos are fab ! will also post some of course hahaha !
Haha love the picture!
Yes it’s very funny. Lots of photos of golden labs posing as lions but not many black ones 🙂
Oh, I truly enjoyed this post so much and you seem to be in a class of your own Ruby! Yes, Leo is the The Boss-Dog for sure! 😀 I enjoyed reading this and it might interest your owner as well..hehehe

Mollie is Cancerian. Now I need to check what that means! I’m Leo though!

Oh Ruby, my Mama is a Leo too! You must be as wonderful as Mama. Wooooowoooo! Ku
p.s. but Mama does not like possum.
So lots of Leos around then – must be something in the wind around xmas time!
According to my beau, who is an insufferable Leo, “Leos are ruled by the Sun, which is the center of the Universe. The rest of you just revolve around US.” Gawd. (Eyes rolling). I hope Ruby isn’t quite so bad when grows all the way up! Love her stories!
Thanks – exactly right! – the centre of the universe indeed.
Donna is an Aries! Everyone bow down to her! 😛
